Portugal, the narrow country in southwest Europe that is becoming increasingly popular for tourists, has a lot more to offer than 600 kilometers of beach holiday promising coastline. Original, natural landscapes, rare animal and plant species and unique intact ecosystems can be found in the country’s nature parks. It is the aim of the five-part series “Portugal’s National Parks”, to explore some of the most beautiful and diverse parks on a journey from the wild, rough north to discover surprising new sides of Portugal in the Mediterranean south.
The documentary series explores five of the most important nature and national parks in Portugal. Here these are protected areas for nature, in which flora and fauna are wild and free can develop. A national park is a landscape that is ecologically special is valuable and needs the protection of the state. In the course of the series there will be four nature parks and the only national park in Portugal, Peneda-Gerês. The focus is on that characteristics of flora and fauna of the different regions. We explore the cliffs in the south of the country, the ski area on the highest mountain in Portugal and the north, the green garden of the Iberian peninsula.
